Reading

Reading is useful for language acquisition. Provided that students more or less understand what they read, the more they read, the better they get at it. Reading also has a positive effect on student s’ vocabulary knowledge, on their spelling and on their writing. Reading texts also provide good models for English writing. At different times we can encourage students to focus on vocabulary, grammar and punctuation. We can also use reading material to demonstrate the way we construct sentences, paragraphs and whole text. Students then have good models for their own writing. (Jeremy Harmer, 2007: 99)
Reading is important for language learning process. As we know that there are four skills that want to be achieved in language learning process. Reading is part of them. From reading we can enrich our vocabularies, knowledge and be better in pronunciation.
Reading is more than seeing word clearly, more than pronouncing printed words correctly, more than recognizing the meaning of isolated words. Reading requires you think, feel and imagine effective reading largely determines what he reads, why he reads and how he reads. (Harris and Spay,1984)
With reading we can increase our abilities. We read some information, think, feel, and imagine the main point. And we can absorb the information become our knowledge. Reading can also as respiration and motivation for readers, a good way to learn new idea, facts and experience.
Good reading text can introduce interesting topics, stimulate discussion, excite imaginative response and profit spring board for well-rounded, fascinating lessons. (Jeremy Harmer, 2007: 99)
